Full, demand, and empty indicator in silos: MBA 200 "TYPE MAIHAK"

Full, demand, and empty measurement in silos- those are the main applications of the rotating paddle instrument MBA 200.

The MBA 200 works reliably and almost completely independent from the bulk material’s characteristics. Therefore it is used more and more frequently for measuring of the filling heights.

Since 1939, the "Maihak Bin level Analyzer” were produced and successfully distributed by the MAIHAK AG. The abbreviation MBA is also derived from this expression, which stands for “Maihak-Bunkerstand-Anzeiger” in German.

The basic construction of motor, shaft and rotating paddle remained from this time on - simply because this measuring idea is unique. In detail, however, the modern rotating paddle devices of the MBA 200 series has very little in common with the “bunker-level switches” of 1939. However, they combine the past and present advantages.

 

The MBA 200 combines past and present advantages

The new turnable and detachable head of the instrument is a very comfortable feature of the modern MBA 200. It can be adjusted to the local requirements after the final mounting. Also maintenance works can be done a lot easier because the instrument’s head can simply be removed from the device without having to disassemble the entire apparatus.

To increase the stability of the operation the devices can be fitted with a monitoring logic for the shaft rotation. This grants additional the MBA 200’s security within the measurement. In case the shaft stands still once, although it should be rotating according to the internal switch-setting, a notice of malfunction is generated. Also the reverse case is recognized as a malfunction. The user can therefore rely on the instrument any time and immediately respond to a malfunction.

Even for extreme application areas the instruments of the MBA200 series are very well suitable: Shafts, protection-tubes and bearings are all made of stainless steel and therefore withstand corrosive surroundings. Abrasion of the bearings is prevented by special combi-gaskets made of Teflon®- and Viton. Measurements are even possible in extreme temperatures (800°C) and pressures (10 bar) inside of the container. And in areas of explosive atmosphere (Ex-areas), the entire instrument including all electronic components can be installed in the “dust-Ex-zone 20”.

 

Nine good reasons to choose the MBA 200 „TYPE MAIHAK“.

  1. Energy-saving AC voltage-motor.
    If the rotating paddle is stopped, the motor deactivates automatically. In this situation it doesn't use any energy and is not stressed in the stop position.
  2. Electric contacts made of gold ensuring secure switching with low-voltage signals.
    Therefore the MBA200 is a reliable partner for digital control units.
  3. The safety-oriented circuit recognizes disturbances immediately.
    Depending on utilization, the device will show “full” or “empty” in case of a voltage blackout. This prevents overfilling of the silo.
  4. Rapid cable installation because of sufficient room in the casing.
    Plenty of space and a well-arranged alignment of clamps simplify the cable connection at difficult installation places.
  5. The plug-in instrument head simplifies the replacement.
    A single screw needs to be loosened, and the instrument head can be removed. Axis, rotating-paddle and process connections remain untouched within the silo. A mechanical function check is now possible. Certainly, the replacement can be proceeded just as rapidly.
  6. The switching delay prevents juddering of the relay.
    Faulty signals that are caused by falling or swirling around bulk material that may hit the paddle, are prevented. The switching signal is only given, if the receptacle is definitely "full" or “empty”- always correct, always certain.
  7. With the self-monitoring the instrument keeps itself under surveillance.
    In case the shaft stands still, although it should be rotating according to the internal switch-setting, a notice of malfunction is generated. The reverse case is recognized as a malfunction as well.
  8. Stainless bearings guarantee reliable function after long standstill.
    Particularly with empty detection, the paddle has to stand still over days, weeks or even months. Non-corroding ball-bearings made of stainless steel provide a perfect re-activity after months of motionless stopping period. Even more: Within devices for high temperatures, hybrid bearings with ceramic balls or special PTFE seals are built in - guaranteeing reliability.
  9. Safe switching by adjustable tension spring.
    The counter force of the tension spring can be adjusted: This can either be done by regulating the preload force into 5 different settings or by choosing between one of 3 springs with different elasticity.
